Geomembrane Indonesia is one of the most widely used geosynthetic materials in Indonesia. This material is airtight (impermeability) so it is widely used as an impermeable layer for reservoirs, sewage ponds, waterways, and final disposal. Geomembrane itself is divided into several types based on the material of manufacture. Namely HDPE Geomembrane, LDPE Geomembrane, and PVC Geomembrane. But the most widely used in Indonesia is the type of HDPE. Geomembrane HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a material that is commonly found in the Indonesian market, has a thickness ranging from 0.5 mm – 2 mm, some even provide more thickness depending on consumer needs.

This geomembrane Indonesian has several excellent features of anti-corrosion, heat resistance up to 97 degrees Celsius, Ultraviolet, and can last up to 15 years. As a base for ponds, this Geomembrane can increase production and efficiency so that it is more efficient, because of its long usage time of 15 years or more. Geomembrane is a geosynthetic product in the form of a plastic sheet made of high-grade polyethylene. There are several variations of geomembrane sold in Indonesia, and the most popular is the HDPE Geomembrane.

The low level of permeability makes HDPE Geomembrane an impermeable layer, so that wastewater does not seep into the ground. In addition, HDPE Geomembrane is also resistant to acidic liquids and direct sunlight, so it is not easily damaged and can be used for a long time. Wastewater is a substance that can cause various problems, especially in the environment if handled improperly. Many companies or factories still do not understand about the bad impacts that wastewater can have, so it is often seen that wastewater is thrown away or directly into the river. Therefore, proper and proper handling of waste is needed to minimize damage to the environment. One way is to make a special pond for waste collection using Indonesian geomembrane as the base.

The use of HDPE Geomembrane in waste ponds must also pay attention to the condition of the pond location. If the waste pool is in a location with a high groundwater table, the geomembrane has the potential for whales (geoembrane bubbles). The fix is: Making under drains by installing perforated pipes wrapped in geotextile at the bottom of the pool and PVC pipes at the edge of the pool to facilitate pumping of groundwater from under the geomembrane during the geomembrane installation process and before the pool is filled with waste.

As for ponds that are already filled with waste, ways to reduce the potential for whales are: Make a gas release with the same design as under drain, namely by installing a perforated pipe wrapped in geotextile at the bottom of the pool (under the geomembrane) and a PVC pipe on the edge of the pool in order to make it easier for gas from below the pool to come out to the surface. Installation of counterweights, which can be in the form of sand bags or precast concrete, is also required in an amount that is adjusted to the condition of the pond subgrade.
